Solar energy is revolutionizing the way we think about cooking and energy access in developing communities. In the slums of Kampala, Uganda, a new solar-aided stove installation has recently been implemented at AFFCAD school, providing clean and sustainable energy for cooking meals.

AFFCAD, located in one of the poorest areas of Kampala city, the capital of Uganda, has been struggling with access to reliable energy for cooking. Traditional cooking methods, such as burning wood and charcoal, not only contribute to deforestation but also pose serious health risks to students and teachers who inhale the toxic smoke.

The new Masrcorp solar-aided stove installation uses solar panels to generate electricity, which is then used to power an air system that supports combustion of the stove. The stove is designed to be efficient, reducing the amount of energy needed to cook meals while minimizing harmful emissions. This not only improves the health and well-being of the school community but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable energy practices.

The installation was made possible through a partnership between the school, AFFCAD, a non-profit organization, and Masrcorp. The benefits of the new solar-aided stove installation extend beyond the school community. With the reduced demand for wood and charcoal for cooking, there is less pressure on the surrounding forests, which helps to preserve the local ecosystem and protect against deforestation. Additionally, by using clean and sustainable energy, the school is setting an example for the wider Bwaise community, demonstrating the potential for renewable energy to address energy poverty and promote sustainable development.

The solar-aided stove installation is just one example of the innovative solutions that are being developed to address the energy needs of communities in developing countries. By leveraging the power of solar energy, we can not only improve the health and well-being of communities but also contribute to a more sustainable future for all.
